We hear so often from our patients how they want to look as young on the outside as they feel on the inside. For this reason, we do our best to help them become the best version of themselves. Luckily, our times offer a wide variety of options to help you be your best. Celibre spotlights laser resurfacing treatments and injections as a means to turn back the effects of time and treat fine lines and wrinkles.
To understand why laser resurfacing is the fastest growing wrinkle treatment, lets examine what causes wrinkles in the first place:
Wrinkles are, essentially, imperfections in the epidermal (upper) layer of skin. Think of your skin as a painted house, where over time the weather and other elements cause lines in the paint. These lines in our skin are mainly due to the loss of collagen and elastin. As we age our bodies slow down the production of both, resulting in decreased skin elasticity. This then causes the skin to thin, retain less moisture, creating these lines, which we call wrinkles.
Today, many people use an anti-aging wrinkle creams or wrinkle serums that may offer temporarily, superficial improvement to make these lines less visible. Laser resurfacing, on the other hand, safely removes and regenerates the upper layer of skin, stimulating collagen production, which reduces the depth and visibility of wrinkles and leads to a longer lasting result. Laser resurfacing, which is one of the best wrinkle treatments available, is one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and around the world. Laser resurfacing to remove wrinkles accounted for 14% of total cosmetic procedures performed last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. 400,000 such treatments were performed, classifying laser resurfacing as one of the best wrinkle prevention methods available today.
Laser skin resurfacing treatment doesn’t just treat fine to moderate wrinkles, it can also help eliminate liver spots or age spots (solar lentigines), uneven skin tone, sun-damaged skin and acne or chickenpox scars.
While laser resurfacing is an excellent way to utilize FDA approved lasers to remove skin wrinkles, injections are also an excellent alternative. Among the arsenal of wrinkle fighting tools, Celibre offers Botox, Dysport, Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, and Radiesse injections.
Botox injections are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in America, numbering in the millions each year. Botox works to relieve skin wrinkles not by eliminating or diminishing them, the way that laser resurfacing does. Instead, botox injections work to smooth away wrinkles by preventing the surrounding muscles from tensing. By controlling muscle action, Botox eliminates the creation of creases in the skin, which result in the formation of new wrinkles, and prevents the appearance of existing lines.
Dysport injections are a treatment for wrinkles that has recently began rivaling Botox injections in popularity. It is a prescription injectible most commonly used to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles between the eyebrows, but has been used on other areas of the face as well. It is the same product as Botox but with a different manufacturer.
Restylane Injections are considered a “dermal filler” and as such, increase the volume in thinning skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. As we age, our skin loses elasticity as well as volume as a result of decreased collagen and elastin production, which are the building blocks of the skin. With Restylane injections, a patient can achieve a younger appearance and reduce the prevalence of wrinkles by filling folds in the skin.
Juvederm Injections are also used by Celibre medical to fight wrinkles and restore a youthful appearance. Another hyaluronic acid based product, Juvederm works by filling in the areas of the face that have seen a thinning of the skin due to a loss of collagen and elastin. It is safe and effective in smoothing folds and fine lines and is used in the lips, cheeks, under eye area and laugh lines.
Perlane injections are similar to Restylane and Juvederm in that it is used to remove wrinkles, but the product has a thicker consistency than the two. Made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is naturally found in the human body, Perlane is able to absorb up to 1,000 times its weight in water (as is the case with the other dermal fillers) and is therefore used to fill out the hollow areas of the face, as opposed to relaxing underlying muscles.
Radiesse injections are also offered by Celibre as part of the many wrinkle treatments available. Radiesse injections are administered in several areas of the face including along the sides of the nose and the cheeks. Radiesse injections are able to alleviate deeper skin creases and folds and because the product has a thicker consistency and is injected deeper in the skin, it is considered to be a “scaffold” or “support” for the frame of the face and is most commonly used in the cheeks.
