 How is a tattoo created?
A tattoo is created when a small needle injects ink into the dermis (lower layer) of the skin. Because the ink particles are too large to be carried away by white blood cells the pigment is fairly permanent and is visible through the skin.

How long do tattoos last?
In many cases a tattoo may last forever. However, as tattoos age, they lose their clarity and become blurry. This happens because your body considers tattoo ink to be foreign matter and begins to attack it as soon as it is injected. Over time, your body’s defense system breaks down the ink, making the tattoo look blurry and less well defined. Laser tattoo removal speeds up this process by heating the tattoo ink to the point where the body can break it down and carry it away easily.
