Volume
As skin ages, collagen and elastin break down and the fatty tissue layer thins. As volume is lost, the skin appears drawn and angular because of the tissue loss between the skin and bone. Lines that were once soft and rolling appear angular. Tissue that was once convex (puffy like a baby's cheeks) becomes convex (hollow like a bowl).
We use Perlane to replace volume that has been lost in the fatty tissue layer because of the breakdown of collagen and elastin. Using dermal fillers allows us to volumize and reshape the face so that it does not appear as drawn and angular.

The patient below was injected with Restylane. The patient had lost volume all around the mouth area which led to the appearance of "oral commissures", the vertical lines that extend downward from the corners of the mouth. Restylane injections were used to replace the volume loss around the mouth which led to a smoother and fuller appearance.
