Facial Shape
It's no surprise that the shape of our faces changes with age. A youthful face appears
in the shape of an upside down pyramid with the lower face narrow (at the chin)
and the upper face broad (the forehead). The youthful face is not angular but has
soft contours and smooth lines.
As we age, the pyramid shape reverses. Bone structure and support diminishes and
the face appears more as a right side up pyramid where the chin and jowels broaden
and the upper face narrows. Using
Botox Injections we can relax certain facial muscles allowing the shape
of the face to change by lifting certain areas and lowering others. Dermal fillers
such as Restylane,
Juvederm and Perlane allow us to fill hollow areas and
make angular transitions smoother.
The patient below had an extremely deep "glabella" line, the vertical
wrinkles that appear between the eyes. Usually there are two of these lines and
they can be corrected using
Botox. In this case, Botox was used to relax the muscles causing the line
to soften and because it was so deep,
Restylane was also used to fill it.
