A cherry hemangioma is also referred to as a spider hemangioma or “blood freckle.” These small vascular lesions appear as small, red dots or freckles on the body. They usually develop in middle age on the torso of the body and may then spread to the extremities. In almost all situations, these pesky vascular lesions are benign (non-cancer causing) and are only a cosmetic concern. In rare situations, larger, numerous spider hemangiomas may indicate an underlying condition that needs evaluation. Cherry hemangiomas are easily treated for all skin types with class IV medical lasers.
