Freckles can be treated very effectively with class IV medical lasers. The most common lasers utilized for the safe, effective laser freckle removal are known as Q-switched lasers. These lasers are attracted to the darker color (pigment) and work by destroying the melanocytes - the cells develop the color in freckles. The Q-switched YAG laser is safe for for freckle removal in all skin types.
Because freckles are a result of sun exposure, patients are likely to refreckle .with sun exposure. By using broad band sunscreen diligently, most patients will be able to maintain their results. When protecting the face, don’t forget the chest and hands!
