How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal targets the melanin (pigment) concentrated at the base of the hair follicle.
The small blood vessel that feeds the hair follicle is damaged when the pigment
at the base of the hair follicle is heated up by the laser. Because the small blood
vessel is damaged, blood does not flow to the hair, causing it to stop growing.
There are many different types of hair that can be removed using our laser hair removal process. Hair comes in all colors, shapes, and sizes.
Hair in different areas of the body has different physical characteristics, growth
cycles and follicle depths, and all of these factors will affect how we treat your
Excess hair is caused by factors such as gender, genetics, race, age, and hormonal
changes in the body (puberty, pregnancy and menopause). Excess facial hair is closely
related to your genetic background, and often unwanted hair increases with age.
Pregnancy, puberty, and menopause can cause hormonal changes that will affect excess
hair growth. Unwanted hair can be equally problematic for men and women.
Hair has three different cycles, anagen, catagen, and telogen. Hair growth cycles
are important because they affect the outcome of your laser hair removal program.
When the hair is in the Telogen or “resting" phase, the target (the melanin
at the base of the hair follicle) is not present. Because the target is not present
during the resting phase, hair removal will not occur. For permanent hair removal
to occur, the hair must be in the Anagen (growth) phase when the laser hair removal treatment
is performed for the process to work. For this reason, the duration between laser
treatments must match as closely as possible to the length of the hair
growth cycle for the area of the body being treated. Factors such as age, ethnicity,
gender, medication, hormones, and location on the body can all influence the hair
growth cycle and there is no one formula for estimating the growth cycles exactly,
but it can be approximated.
The anagen phase is the active growth phase for the hair. Pigmentation
(melanin) content is highest during this phase, causing rapid growth. During this
phase, laser hair removal treatments work best because of the higher melanin content.
The catagen phase is a short transition stage that occurs at the end of the anagen
phase. It signals the end of the active growth of a hair. This phase lasts for about
2-3 weeks, and during this time, blood flow to the hair is cut off through the dermal
The telogen phase is the resting phase of the hair growth cycle. At any given time,
10%-15% of all hair in the body is in the resting phase. During this phase the hair
is not present in the follicle and for this reason, laser hair removal will not
be effective. The resting phase is one of the reasons why multiple laser treatments are required to achieve permanent hair removal.

Our laser hair removal clinics can
permanently remove unwanted hair by causing a very small thermal injury
at the base or “bulb" of the hair follicle. The process works because
the heat of the laser damages the microscopic blood vessels that feed the follicle
with blood while preventing injury to the surrounding tissue. When this small thermal
injury is created the hair is no longer able to regrow and permanent hair removal
Depending on the skin type of the individual being treated, Celibre uses one of
several different lasers to accomplish the goal of permanently removing your hair.
Laser equipment choice is a very important factor in the effectiveness of your laser hair removal treatment because it affects both your safety and results. The safest
and most effective laser for African American hair removal is not necessarily
the same laser for light Caucasian skin. Fortunately, at Celibre, we have a number
of options when it comes to choosing the correct laser for your hair removal
procedure. This will lead to the safest procedures with the fewest number of treatments
and the highest % of hair loss.
Laser hair removal works most effectively with multiple treatments. Because the hair being treated
is not always in the Anagen or growth phase, multiple treatments (typically at least
six) are required to achieve significant hair removal.
Although laser hair removal is different from patient to patient (based on skin
type and the coarseness and color of hair), there are some generally accepted expectations.
For the %’s noted below, the coarsest and darkest hair is the hair that is most
easily removed and that which disappears first. The reason we will never achieve
100% permanent hair removal is that some of our hair is fine and colorless. Fine,
light hair is not easily removed with lasers but is also not problematic
because it is usually invisible to the naked eye and does not need to be shaved. The average patient will achieve 75% - 95% permanent hair removal after 6-8 laser hair removal treatments.
Facial Laser Hair Removal - A cosmetic procedure that is commonly performed at Celibre. It is safe,
effective, and the lasers used are all FDA approved. Facial laser hair removal most

When compared with alternative methods of hair removal, such as waxing or electrolysis,
laser hair removal quickly emerges as a superior option based on total cost
and permanence. Using a laser to get rid of unwanted facial hair is quicker, easier,
permanent and more comfortable than the alternatives. In fact, the procedure can
be completed in as little as 10 minutes per treatment.
At Celibre, we can treat all facial areas, from sideburns to upper lip, to chin
or neck. Moreover, a patient is not required to allow the hair to grow prior to
receiving treatment as is the case with waxing. And because we use over 20 different
FDA approved lasers, we can customize a facial hair removal solution to your specific
needs, skin type and hair type. This customized approach yields safer, more permanent results with fewer laser hair removal treatments.
Body Laser Hair Removal - Is excessive back hair, chest hair, abdominal hair, neck hair, ingrown hair, pubic hair, or underarm hair preventing you from being your best? Laser hair removal is a great way to permanently get rid of unwanted
hair anywhere on your body. In addition to saving money over the long run, laser body
hair removal is a time saving process when compared to shaving or waxing.
Each laser hair removal treatment is customized to your specific skin type and area
of the body using one of several different FDA-approved lasers.

Bikini Line Laser Hair Removal - It is difficult to appear confident at the beach without having
to worry about embarrassing shaving bumps or stray hairs. After your bikini laser hair
removal treatment is complete, you will find that the painful shaving bumps and
razor burn will disappear, and worrying about ingrown hairs will also be a thing
of the past.
Celibre offers a permanent solution to bikini line hair removal. Our FDA-approved
lasers are safe and effective for all skin types. And they don’t take a long time
- some procedures take as little as 10 minutes to complete.
Eyebrow Laser Hair Removal - The treatment of a
“uni-brow” is one of the most commonly requested laser facial hair removal treatments.
This condition, which can affect both men and women, has traditionally been treated
with tweezing, threading or waxing. These painful alternatives require timely, ongoing
maintenance and also have negative potential side effects such as acne, darkening
of the skin and infection.
By opting for eyebrow laser hair removal, you will no longer have to concern yourself
with excess brow hair. It is a quick, permanent solution that will keep you looking
your best and only takes about 15 minutes. After completing a treatment, you may
experience very slight irritation in the area where hair was removed. The sensation
is similar to that of a sunburn, and usually resolves within 24 hours.
Leg Laser Hair Removal - Laser leg hair removal treatments will not only save you money over ongoing waxing
treatments but it will save you valuable time (it is said that women spend nearly
60 hours per year on shaving their legs alone). And the added benefit is that you
will never have to pack your shaving materials in your travel suitcase again!
