We all know that today’s business climate is competitive. With that said, there’s no excuse for cutting corners when considering your patient’s good health. We’d like to highlight some “Botox Worst Practices” that have become more prevalent in today’s competitive Botox marketplace.
Demand that your Botox is from the US
According to the manufacturer’s representatives, a large number of US Botox providers are currently importing or have imported Botox (or Dysport). IT’S NOT ONLY ILLEGAL FOR MEDICAL OFFICES TO IMPORT BOTOX but it calls into question whether or not your practitioner is ethical at all. If they are going to cut corners and buy Botox from Canada, Mexico or China, what else might they be doing to compromise your health with potential side effects? If you are paying less than $10 per unit for Botox you should be concerned about the possibility that your practitioner is importing Botox. To confirm that the Botox you are getting is from the US, ask for the lot number and check with Allergan to find out if it is US based Botox.
Know the number of Botox units used
If your physician is selling Botox (or Dysport) by the area or syringe, it’s difficult to know how much of the drug (vs. the saline solution) is being used. One of the basic requirements to be able compare apples to apples when choosing a practitioner is to know how many units of the actual product are being injected. Ask how many units your injector is using to make sure you are not being under-dosed (which would lead to short term results only). You can also guard against overuse and consequently avoid any unnecessary risks as well as higher prices.
Don’t Let Your Injector Contaminate!
We are very concerned having recently learned of an injection method that uses contaminated, pre-filled Botox syringes to cut down on time and cost. It has come to light that some offices pre-fill numerous Botox/Dysport syringes and when the entire syringe is not used, the practitioner changes only the needle and reuses the same syringe.
Because this injection method could cross contaminate the syringe by introducing blood from one patent into that or another, it violates every regulation and health standard in the practice of medicine. This reckless disregard for patient health is not only shocking – it’s criminal. Make certain your injector disposes of the used needles/syringes in front of you in the appropriate sharps container when the treatment is completed.
