Sculptra injections are typically quite fast. The average patient will have two vials of Sculptra and saline injected, and this normally takes about 30 minutes.
As with any injections, there can be some mild discomfort associated with the Sculptra treatment. All makeup, sunscreen, etc. will be removed prior to treatment. Topical numbing cream and ice packs are used to mitigate any pain associated with the Sculptra injections.
It is possible to have bruising afterward and swelling is normal. Redness and tenderness may also occur after treatment. The side effects, which include bruising, swelling, redness and/or tenderness may last from several days to a week, with bruising being the most persistent. The effects of the treatment are subtle in the weeks following the treatment as the body takes time to build collagen. The true effects of the Sculptra treatment are seen after 6-12 months and several injection visits.
