Dangers of Cheap Botox Injections

Before and After Photos

If it’s cheap, it may very well be from overseas! We have found that most providers that sell their Botox for $8 per unit or less are acquiring their product from overseas. This information comes directly from the Allergan (Botox) sales reps that manage the territories we operate in. They know whether or not these facilities are ordering from Allergan, the manufacturer, because they see the order stream and the advertising for the practices. The problem with ordering from overseas is that you lose the quality control. When a medical practice orders from overseas, they cannot be sure of where the product is coming from, how it has been stored and maintained or even if it is genuine Botox.

Cheap Botox providers inject more product to compensate for lower prices. Most providers that sell cheap Botox inject more of it. For example, we had a patient recently that was injected with 50 units of Botox into the forehead and was charged $600. Not only did this physician drop her eyebrows (a bad side effect of too much product), but it cost her a lot more money than if she had paid more per unit but had less units injected. At our facility, she was able to get a smooth wrinkle free forehead by injecting 15 units at a cost of $180. She got better results, no side effects and a lower overall Botox cost. The point of this story is that you do not know what the TOTAL price for Botox is going to be until you know how many units are going to be injected. The number of units is independent of the price so in many cases, those selling cheapBotox will inject more units to make up for the lower cost per unit.

Botox injections are a service, not just a product. The experience of you injector will vary from practitioner to practitioner. We had one recent patient tell us that at the "Botox Party" she went to at her doctor's office, the patients were lined up one after another outside his office. He spent about 5 minutes with each patient. He took almost no time to understand their goals and desires and only a couple minutes to inject each one. That may assembly line approach may work for some, but she left his practice for ours in search of a better personal relationship (and a bit more time) with her injector.
