The nasal alar area is the term used to describe the area next to the nostrils where the cheek meets the edge of the nose.  It is usually where the laugh lines (nasolabial folds) begin.  As we age, this area usually will usually display a depression.  This depression occurs as volume is lost, and as the cheek folds over to accentuate the laugh line.  Even when a patient does not have a concern with nasolabial folds (laugh lines), the nasal alar area is a small but rewarding area to add volume with a dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm.  This procedure fills the area to minimize the shadows that are often created with convexities in the face that appear as we age.
