What is the expected outcome of poikiloderma treatments?

Treatment of poikiloderma (sun damage of the neck and chest area) with class IV medical lasers offers not only good improvement but may also offer complete resolution of the discoloration associated with poikiloderma.  It generally takes several laser treatments to accomplish this spaced four weeks apart.  However, if one’s skin type is appropriate (and the patient is agreeable to this) more aggressive laser treatments for poikiloderma may offer quicker, more dramatic results.  Because poikiloderma is a direct result of sun damage, it is imperative that sunscreen is applied to the treated areas even after treatments have been completed.   Most of us remember to protect our faces from the sun, but let’s not forget the neck and chest as well.
