What is a “bruising” treatment for Rosacea?

The term “bruising” treatments refers to an aggressive Rosacea laser treatment with the pulsed dye laser.  Because pulsed dye lasers target vascular conditions (ex:  rosacea, spider veins, red-based stretch marks, acne scars) the concept is to close the small blood vessels that lead to the development of the redness/pigment.  Bruising is the end result of an aggressive pulsed dye laser treatment wherein the blood vessel is destroyed leading to an actual bruising response in the skin.  The bruising typically resolves gradually over 7 to 10 days.

Research supports that bruising doses with pulsed dye lasers offers the most dramatic outcomes in the shortest period of time for Rosacea patients. These types of Rosacea laser treatments are not appropriate for all skin types or for those that cannot have any social downtime.  In those instances, non-bruising doses are an excellent option.
