Age spots, sun spots, and liver spots are safely and effectively treated with class IV medical lasers such as Q-switched lasers and the Erbium Yag laser.
The Erbium laser removes the outermost layer of the epidermis where age spots are superficially located. On the other hand, Q-switched lasers target the melanin (pigment or color) within the age spot specifically. Erbium laser treatments for removal of age spots are not indicated for all skin types (skin colors) whereas Q-switched Yag lasers are safe for all skin types.

Most sun spots require only a few treatments with Q-switched laser treatments to dramatically fade or completely resolve the age spots. Wearing daily UVA/UVB sunscreen is a good practice in the prevention of age and sun spots.
