The term “mouth frown” refers to when the corners of the mouth turn downward which gives the appearance of sadness. This then resembles a frown or an upside down smile. Oftentimes, a mouth frown is caused by a specific muscle of the face that becomes hyperactive and pulls downward.
By using minute Botox injections placed in key target areas, the muscle will relax enough to allow for the corners of the mouth to reposition themselves. Another technique to correct the mouth frown is by using fillers (ex: Restylane, Juvederm, etc.) to fill the corners and pull them up. Most patients will benefit from a combination of both Botox and dermal fillers. A good, experienced practitioner will understand the concept of shaping the face by utilizing meticulous technique, understanding facial anatomy, and combining injection products to help one achieve the patient's goals.
